Weaponeer.net must be paying too much for hosting

Unlimited hosting can be had for under $100 per year including bulletin boards, image hosting, and bandwidth. I don’t want to see Weaponeer disappear but this is a semi regular occurrence and it confuses me. I’ve run servers at home or paid for hosting since the late 1990’s. My current employer even did co-lo hosting for a while, since we have such a large data center. It seems they need to look into finding a new host. Many years ago I mentioned this and the response was flat.

Please donate if you enjoy the site. From their donation request email:

Weaponeer.net is now in desperate need of DONATIONS for HOSTING FEE’S.

IF WE DON’T RECEIVE ENOUGH DONATIONS BEFORE MIDNIGHT TONIGHT (central time). The Host will shut off the weaponeer.net website until the full payment has been made.

The last couple months donations have been down 90%, YET the hosting fee’s have gone up due to more people visiting the website.

WE NEED AS MANY DONATIONS AS WE CAN GET TO PAY THE HOSTING FEE’S, AND ALL DONATION AMOUNTS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED, FROM SMALL TO LARGE. (but I will not be able to make up the difference this time.

You can use the donation button link on the home page until midnight tonight when the host will take us off line. So to make a donation, you can do so using this link: http://tinyurl.com/pv8ufrc or you can go directly to PayPal.com and make a payment to me at Boss@weaponeer.net

if you have a question: you should message a moderator until the site goes down. when the website go’s down, so do all the weaponeer.net email accounts

THE PROBLEM IS, I DON’T HAVE A DIME LEFT OVER TO COVER ANY OF THE HOSTING FEE’S THIS MONTH, WITH MEANS, IF WE DON’T GET THE HOSTING FEE’S THROUGH DONATIONS BEFORE 1ST JUNE WEAPONEER.NETWILL NEED TO BE SHUTDOWN.

Two months ago I had to come up with 90% of the hosting fee’s which is a major kick in the pocket book for a disabled veteran. I don’t know about other disabled veterans, but my disability pay is the equivalent of poverty.

I used to be able to shoot high quality weaponeer videos, which would make money for the website (nearly all of it) as well as to do marketing for weaponeer.net, and reaching scores of people with an interest in building guns. and more new members results in more new posts. BUT my Desktop computer died in a big way, which made it so i no longer could edit videos, plus nearly the same time, my 3 CCD prosumer Video Camera dropped to 1 CCD which basically reverted to shooting video in only one prime color (which tends to affect quality just a bit). And unexpectedly that has greatly effected my health. I’m already disabled, and have a hard time getting around (the diabetes does not help, and nor does the COPD and chronic pain requiring 120mg of Morphine a day).

The Donations have been really bad the last several months, and I hate to shut down the forum, so every dime I saved in hope of fixing the desk top PC problem, has all ended up going towards keeping weaponeer.net online. Maybe there is no longer any interest in keeping weaponeer.net online by the membership.

Once again, the Hosting Provider will automatically turn off the weaponeer.net website do to lack of payment of hosting fee’s STARTING MIDNIGHT TONIGHT CENTRAL TIME !

Since May 19, 2016 The Website has had 85.5 GB worth of traffic out of 200 GB.

Average Disk Space usage since May 19, 2016 is
9,928.26 MB out of 10000 MB limit
The Last day’s usage is 9,872.8 MB

So this was never sent out with the emails, I am guessing if it would have been attached, people would have sent donation.

I do not know Mr. Graham and I may be way off base but it seems strange to me that he would wait until the day its getting shut down to let people know.

I know from personal experience that opiates (even taken as directed) can have the side effect of making everything alright right until you find out you have no more and no way of getting more. Maybe this is what happened here ?

At any rate it is a shame to lose a good resource for the home gunsmith community and I wish Mr. Graham the best in the future. Cheap hosting is definitely available and maybe some folks who are friends with him can help steer him in the direction of some.
